Outdoors video in bright sunlight. This was taken during a Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ride, looking down to the mountain.
Writing on the wall: Watch the "Get Your Kicks" in the upper left of the billboard and you can see some momentary lapse of focus.
An outdoors view of downtown Palm Springs.
As grainy as it gets: shooting indoors. (Never mind the audio -- some SmugMug sync problem.)
A shy squirrel. The Xacti does a good job here keeping it in focus.
So much for "image stabilization" -- it's often less-than-obvious that the Xacti is supposed to have one.
The audio sync issues here are a SmugMug problem, but the sudden, unprompted focus changes are present in the original clip -- a recurring problem when shooting with the Xacti TH-1.
High-contrast scene resulting in overexposure, with some focus jitters thrown in for good measure.
In comparison, a clip shot with the Casio EX-F1, which also struggles with keeping focus while zooming but delivers cleaner video (less noise) thanks to its bigger sensor.
